Carpet Fiber Guide
Smart Strand/Triexta: This new fiber has luxurious softness, superior long-lasting durability, and permanent built-in stain resistance.
Nylon: This synthetic carpet fiber is popular because it offers tremendous value, performance and ease of maintenance. Additionally, nylon provides brilliant colors and hides both soil and traffic well.
Olefin: Also called polypropylene, olefin fibers are commonly used in the construction of berbers, level loops and outdoor carpets. Olefin carpets are highly stain, static, mold and mildew resistant.
Polyester: This fiber gives excellent color clarity with a soft feel to the carpet, however, lacks the durability of a nylon carpet.
Acrylic: This fiber has a real wool look. Used mainly in level loops, bath mats and some velvet carpet styles, it offers good mold and mildew resistance with low static levels.
Wool: Although somewhat expensive, wool offers great bulk, performance and an elegant look.
